The Observer is quitting Facebook

EDITOR’S NOTE: After careful consideration and plenty of reader feedback, the Queens Observer reinstated its Facebook page Dec. 27, rejoining Mark Zuckerberg’s evil empire.

Dear readers:

Facebook is a money-grubbing, soul-sucking, data-exploiting waste of time and energy. Revelation after revelation has confirmed this to anyone who cares to notice.

The Queens Observer is not a Facebook page. It is a news and commentary website that happens to have a Facebook page. And that’s about to change.

We’re leaving Facebook, but our reporting will continue unchanged and uninterrupted. Everything will go on the website, as usual. And nothing will prevent individual users from sharing our posts on Facebook, if they wish to do so.

Readers also have the option of following us on Twitter (@ObserverQueens). Admittedly, Twitter is also a flawed social media platform. But it’s not nearly as corrupt or exploitative as Facebook, so we’re sticking with it for the time being.

We apologize for any inconvenience this decision may cause, but we cannot in good conscience continue to support Mark Zuckerberg’s evil empire.

Sincerely,
Scott Costen, Editor
